Rivers become heavily polluted in 1980s due to rapid increase in population and indiscriminate discharges from industrial, commercial, livestock and domestic sources.
- Environmental improvement works for rivers
- Dredging, drying and storing regularly of the active sludge deposited on riverbeds.
- Major and minor engineering works includes improvements to the river channel by concrete lining and cladding of slopes by precast elements.
